§ 6862 Write-In Candidate Endorsement

• •If you want people to write your name for President in California, you must tell the state 21 days before the election.

If your friend says, 'I want to be President, write my name on the ballot!' but doesn’t tell the state 21 days before the election, any votes for them won’t be counted.

The law says you have to officially say you’re a write-in candidate ahead of time, or your votes don’t count.
