§ 6241 Democratic Write-In Endorsement

• •If you want people to write your name for President in the Democratic primary, you must tell the Secretary of State at least 21 days before the election.
• •If you don’t tell them in time, any votes written for you won’t count.
• •This rule is only for the Democratic Party’s primary election for President.

Imagine your friend Joe wants to be President, and some people in California want to write his name on the ballot in the Democratic primary.

Joe has to tell the Secretary of State at least 21 days before the primary election that he’s okay with this. If he forgets or waits too long, none of the votes for him will be counted.
