§ 15203 Vote Tabulating Device Location

This law lets a vote‑counting machine be put anywhere in the state as long as the local elections official says it's okay, and the same machine can be shared or borrowed by two or more counties or cities for any election.

Key Takeaways

  • •A vote‑tabulating device can be placed anywhere in the state if the local elections official approves it.
  • •The same device can be owned, borrowed, leased, or shared by two or more counties, cities, or other political subdivisions.
  • •The device can be used to count ballots in any election, not just a specific one.

Example

County A wants to count votes in a small town that doesn't have its own machine, so it puts the machine in the town hall after getting approval. County B, right next door, also uses the same machine on the same day by borrowing it.

Because the elections official approved the location and the machine can be shared, both counties can legally use that one device to count their ballots.
