§ 87017 Employee Murder Survivor Benefits

Key Takeaways

  • •If a community college worker is killed on the job, their spouse can get paid what the worker would have earned until their contract ended.
  • •The money comes from the college's funds, not from the worker's family or insurance.
  • •This only applies if the worker was murdered, not if they died in an accident or from sickness.

Example

A janitor at a community college is murdered while cleaning a classroom after hours.

The college will pay the janitor's spouse the money the janitor would have earned if they had finished their work contract.
