§ 81380 Community College Property Sales

Key Takeaways

  • •A community college can sell or rent out an old building if the county says it's okay.
  • •The building must be old and important to the town's history, but not good for school use anymore.
  • •The buyer or renter must be a local group that doesn't make money (like a charity).
  • •The college must get a fair price for the building or rent, and make sure they won't get sued for anything that happens there.

Example

A small town has an old community college building that used to be a school but is now empty. The town wants to turn it into a museum.

The college can sell the building to a local history group if the county agrees. The group must be a nonprofit, the building must be historic, and the college must get a fair price and protect itself from lawsuits.
