§ 74137 District Annexation Hearing Process

Key Takeaways

  • •The school board must hold a public meeting within 60 days after getting a request to move land from one school area to another.
  • •Anyone who cares about the move can speak at the meeting.
  • •The school board must vote to say yes or no to the move. If they say yes, most of the board members must agree and sign a paper.
  • •After the meeting, the school board sends the request and their decision back to the county committee.

Example

A group of parents want their neighborhood to be part of a different school district because the new school is closer to their homes.

The parents write a request and send it to the school board. The school board must hold a meeting within 60 days and let everyone, like parents and teachers, talk about it. If most of the school board members agree, they sign a paper saying yes to the move. Then they send the request and their decision back to the county.
