§ 56304 Parental Participation In Special Education

Key Takeaways

  • •Parents or guardians must be included in meetings about their child's special education needs, like figuring out what help they need and where they will learn.
  • •These meetings can be about testing the child, deciding on their education plan, or where they will go to school.
  • •Parents and schools can agree to have these meetings over video calls or phone calls instead of in person.

Example

A child is having trouble in school and might need extra help.

The school must invite the child's parents to meetings to talk about what kind of help the child needs, like special classes or tools. The parents can join these meetings by video call if they and the school agree.
