A dad dies in a car crash. His wife gets $1,000 every month from one government program to help take care of their kid. Now, she applies for another government program that also gives money to families when a parent dies.

Because she already gets $1,000 from the first program, the second program will give her less money. They will take away $1,000 from what they would have given her.
