§ 23806 Child Family Allowance Payments

Key Takeaways

  • •If a parent dies, their kids who aren’t living with the other parent still get money to help them live.
  • •The money goes to the person taking care of the kid, like a guardian or parent, or to a trust set up for the kid.
  • •If the kid is 18 or older, the money can go straight to them if there’s no guardian or trust.

Example

A dad dies, and his 15-year-old son lives with his aunt because his mom is not around.

The son still gets money from his dad’s estate to help pay for food, school, and other needs. The money goes to his aunt because she’s taking care of him.
