§ 22208 Board Committee Delegation Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •The board can pick a small group of its members to do jobs the whole board can do.
  • •The board can also let the boss (chief executive officer) do these jobs.
  • •If the board doesn’t say the group or boss can make the final decision, they must tell the board what they did at the next meeting.
  • •The board can then say ‘good job,’ change it, or undo it.

Example

A school board lets the principal decide to buy new playground equipment.

The principal picks the swings and slides but must tell the school board at the next meeting. The board can then say it’s okay, pick different equipment, or cancel the order.
