§ 17605 District Purchasing Delegation Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •The school board can let certain workers buy things the school needs, like supplies or equipment.
  • •There’s a limit on how much money these workers can spend—no more than what’s allowed by another law (Section 20111).
  • •The school board checks all these purchases every 60 days to make sure everything’s okay.
  • •If a worker does something bad on purpose (like wasting school money), they have to pay it back themselves.

Example

A school principal is allowed to buy new computers for the school.

The school board gave the principal permission to buy things, but only up to a certain amount of money. If the principal buys way too many computers just to help a friend’s store, they’ll have to pay the school back for the extra money they wasted.
