§ 17408 School District Lease Elections

• •School districts must hold an election before signing a lease or agreement that could raise taxes.
• •If the lease or agreement doesn't raise the current maximum tax rate, no election is needed.
• •The election rules are explained in other sections (17409 or 17412).

A school district wants to lease new computers for classrooms.

If leasing the computers would make taxes go up, the school must hold an election to ask voters. If taxes stay the same, no election is needed.
