§ 15700 School Construction Funding Priorities

The Legislature hereby declares that it is in the interest of the state and of the people thereof for the state to aid school districts of the state in providing necessary and adequate school sites and buildings for the pupils of the public school system, the system being a matter of general concern inasmuch as the education of the children of the state is an obligation and function of the state. In adopting this act, the Legislature considers that the great need in school construction is for adequate classrooms for the education of the pupils of the public school system. It is the intent of the Legislature to first satisfy this primary need to the greatest extent possible before providing additional educational facilities, regardless of how desirable such additional facilities may be. To the end that school classrooms may be made available at once and to all school districts in need of such classrooms, provisions for other needed school facilities is necessarily subordinated. (Repealed and added by Stats. 1996, Ch. 277, Sec. 2. Effective January 1, 1997. Operative January 1, 1998.)
