§ 15264 School Bond Oversight Rules

This law makes sure money from school construction bonds is spent exactly as allowed, lets taxpayers watch the spending, warns the public about waste, and forces officials to chase down any illegal use.

Key Takeaways

  • •Bond money must be spent exactly as the law says.
  • •Taxpayers get to help watch how the bond money is used.
  • •Oversight committees must quickly alert the public if money is wasted or spent wrong.
  • •Any illegal spending is investigated and prosecuted fast.

Example

A school district receives bond money to build a new science lab, but the money is instead used to buy office furniture.

Under this law, the oversight committee would notice the misuse, tell the community about the waste, and start a legal investigation to stop the improper spending.
