§ 28703 Cease And Desist Orders

Key Takeaways

  • •The boss (commissioner) can tell a business to stop doing something bad if they break the rules.
  • •The business gets a warning and a chance to explain before the boss makes them stop.
  • •The boss can also make them fix any problems they caused.
  • •This happens if the business breaks the law or does something unsafe.

Example

A bank starts giving out loans without checking if people can pay them back.

The boss (commissioner) can tell the bank to stop giving out loans this way because it’s unsafe. The bank gets a warning and a chance to explain. If the boss still thinks it’s bad, they can make the bank stop and fix any problems.
