§ 730 Medical Evaluator Certification Requirement

Key Takeaways

  • •Doctors must have a special certification to do certain medical checks for work injuries.
  • •If a doctor doesn’t have this certification, they can’t do these checks—unless they’re on a special 3-person team or the injured worker has a lawyer and the doctor gets certified before the check.
  • •Breaking this rule is a big deal and can get the doctor in trouble.

Example

A worker hurts their back at a construction site and needs a doctor to check if they can go back to work.

The doctor must have a special certification to do this check. If they don’t, they can’t do it unless they’re part of a 3-doctor team or the worker has a lawyer and the doctor gets certified first. If the doctor does the check without the right certification, they could get in trouble.
