§ 1950 Dental License Discipline Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If a dental hygienist is convicted of a crime that relates to their job, they can lose their license or get in trouble with the dental board.
  • •The dental board will take action if they get a copy of the conviction record from the court.
  • •Even if the hygienist is on probation or tries to change their plea later, the board can still punish them.
  • •The board can punish the hygienist if they don’t appeal their conviction or if the conviction is upheld on appeal.

Example

A dental hygienist gets caught stealing painkillers from the clinic where they work.

Stealing medicine is a crime related to their job, so the dental board can take away their license or punish them, even if they’re sorry later.
