§ 12512 Purchaser Quantity Representation Liability

Key Takeaways

  • •If you're buying something based on how much of it there is (like weight or number), you can't lie about how much you're getting.
  • •You can't pay less per pound, gallon, etc. than what you told the seller you'd pay or what the law says is the minimum price.
  • •If you break this rule, you can get in trouble with the law (it's called a misdemeanor).

Example

You go to a farm to buy apples. You tell the farmer you'll pay $2 for every pound of apples. But when you weigh the apples, you lie and say they weigh less than they really do, so you pay less money.

This is breaking the law because you're not being honest about how much the apples weigh and you're paying less than what you agreed to per pound.
