Key Takeaways

  • •The state can make a deal with family or friends to pay for a patient's care in a state facility.
  • •The deal must be backed by a bond (like a promise to pay) and can be enforced by the state.
  • •Payments for the patient's care are due every month.
  • •A patient can't have more than one room in a state facility.

Example

If your grandma is in a state care home, the state can ask you to sign a paper promising to pay for her monthly care.

You agree to pay every month, and if you don’t, the state can take you to court to make you pay. Your grandma can only have one room in the care home.
