§ 5976 Respondent Hearing Rights

Key Takeaways

  • •You get a heads-up about court meetings and a copy of any court-ordered check-up.
  • •You can have a lawyer with you, even if you can't pay for one.
  • •You can bring someone to support you in court, but they have to follow some rules.
  • •You can be at the meeting, tell your side, bring people to back you up, and ask questions to others.

Example

If you're in a court case about your health or safety, like if someone says you can't take care of yourself.

The court has to tell you when meetings are, give you a copy of any doctor's report, let you have a free lawyer, and allow you to be there, speak up, and bring friends to help.
