§ 18968 Birth Certificate Surcharge Transfer

Key Takeaways

  • •If a county doesn't set up a special group to handle certain money, then most of the extra fee from birth certificates goes to the State Children’s Trust Fund.
  • •A small part of the fee can be kept for collecting the money.
  • •The local office (like the county recorder) sends the money to the state.

Example

When you pay for a birth certificate, there’s an extra fee. If your county doesn’t have a special group to manage that fee, most of it goes to help kids in the state.

The law says that if the county doesn’t create a commission to handle the extra fee from birth certificates, the money (minus a small part for collecting it) must be sent to the State Children’s Trust Fund.
