§ 17004 Nonresident Indigent Transportation Costs

Key Takeaways

  • •If a poor person is in a county but doesn't live there, the county can pay to send them back to where they really live.
  • •This only happens if there's no other money to pay for the trip.
  • •The county must have good reason to believe the person actually lives somewhere else.

Example

A homeless person is found in County A but has an ID showing they live in County B.

If County A has no other way to pay, they can use their own money to send the person back to County B.
