§ 9338 Land Ownership Voting Rights

Key Takeaways

  • •If you buy land, you can vote in elections for that land, even if the old owner is still on the voting list.
  • •If the voting list has the wrong name for the land owner, the real owner can still vote.
  • •If no one knows who owns the land, the person who actually owns it at election time can vote.

Example

You just bought a farm, but the voting list still has the old owner's name.

You can still vote for things about that farm because you own it now, even if the list hasn’t been updated yet.
