§ 9276 Assessment Objection Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •If you don't like a decision about taxes or fees, you have to write a complaint to the board first.
  • •The board must get your written complaint before you can take the problem to court.
  • •If you skip writing to the board and go straight to court, the court won’t listen to your complaint.

Example

Your city sends you a bill saying you owe $500 for a new sidewalk, but you think it’s unfair.

You can’t just go to court to fight the bill. You must first write a letter to the city board explaining why you think the bill is wrong. If you don’t do this, the court won’t help you.
