§ 8998 Drainage District Property Transfer

Key Takeaways

  • •If the government needs your land to build things like drainage paths or canals, they have to pay you for it.
  • •The payment must cover the full cost of the land or the changes made to it.
  • •This rule is about making sure you get fair money if your land is used for public projects like water control.

Example

Imagine you own a farm, and the government wants to dig a canal through part of your land to help with flooding in the area.

The government must pay you the full price for the part of your land they use for the canal. You don’t have to give it to them for free.
