§ 8968 Warrant Cancellation And Credit

Key Takeaways

  • •If the government asks, old checks (warrants) can be canceled.
  • •The money from the canceled check goes back to the original fund.
  • •Any extra money (interest) earned also goes back to the same fund.

Example

Imagine you find an old government check in your grandma’s attic. The government says, 'Don’t cash it—we’ll cancel it and put the money back where it came from.'

The check gets canceled, and the money (plus any extra interest) goes back to the government’s original account.
