§ 6363 Dam Safety Certification Limits

• •You need a special paper (certificate) to say your dam or reservoir is safe to hold water.
• •You can only hold as much water as the paper says is okay.
• •If you don’t have a new paper yet, you can’t hold more water than the old paper allowed.

A farmer has a small dam to store water for crops. The dam’s old safety paper says it can only hold up to 10 feet of water.

The farmer can’t fill the dam higher than 10 feet until they get a new safety paper. If they do, they’re breaking the law.
