§ 2700 Water Rights Determination Order

Key Takeaways

  • •After people have a chance to complain or the time to complain runs out, the board makes a final decision about who gets to use the water from a river or stream.
  • •The board’s decision is like a rule that says who can use the water and how much they can take.
  • •If no one complains, the board still has to make this rule to decide water rights.

Example

Imagine two farmers both want to use water from the same river for their crops. One farmer thinks they should get more water because they were there first.

The board listens to the farmer’s complaint (or waits to see if anyone complains). Then they make a final rule saying how much water each farmer can use.
