§ 22098 District Drainage Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •If land gets too wet from watering (irrigation), the district can decide to drain the water.
  • •The district only does this if it makes sense money-wise.
  • •Draining helps either to water the land better or to stop problems from too much water.

Example

A farm gets too much water from sprinklers and starts flooding.

The district can set up drains to remove the extra water if it’s not too expensive and helps the farm.

§ 22098 District Drainage Authority

Whenever it appears necessary to drain any land within a district on account of the irrigation which has been done or which is intended to be done by the district under laws relating to it, whether for the purpose of more beneficially carrying on the irrigation or to protect the district from liability by reason of the irrigation, its board, if it is reasonable from an economic standpoint that the drainage be provided, shall provide for the drainage.
