§ 20742 Petition Notice Defects

Key Takeaways

  • •Small mistakes in how a notice or petition is written or published don’t make the whole thing invalid.
  • •Even if someone forgets to publish a signature or makes a typo, the process still counts.
  • •The law cares more about the big picture than tiny errors in paperwork.

Example

A group of neighbors signs a petition to fix a broken playground, but one name is misspelled in the newspaper notice.

The petition still works even with the misspelled name. The law says little mistakes like that don’t ruin the whole thing.
