§ 2001 Water Rights Court Referral

Key Takeaways

  • •If people argue in court about who gets to use water, the judge can ask the water board to help.
  • •The water board will check the facts, like how much water there is and who is using it.
  • •The board then tells the court what they found out.

Example

Two farmers are fighting in court over who can use water from a river for their crops.

The judge can ask the water board to go look at the river, see how much water is there, and figure out who has been using it. The board will then write a report for the judge to help decide the case.
