§ 14907 Water Conservation Agreements

Key Takeaways

  • •If land is retired (not used for farming anymore), the saved water can be sold to others, but it must follow the rules set by the law.
  • •Most of the saved water should be used to help the environment, like fixing rivers, wetlands, and fish habitats.
  • •Up to one-third of the saved water can be used by local groups for environmental projects or to refill underground water.

Example

A farmer stops using his land for farming, which saves a lot of water.

The saved water must mostly be used to help the environment, like making rivers healthier. Some of it can also be sold or used by local groups for similar projects.
