§ 14001 Drinking Water Toxic Contamination

Key Takeaways

  • •California found bad chemicals in many big water systems that people drink from.
  • •These chemicals can make people very sick, like causing cancer or birth defects.
  • •Small water systems will also be checked, and they might find more bad stuff.
  • •The state will need to help pay to fix these water problems.

Example

A family drinks tap water from their kitchen sink every day.

If bad chemicals are in that water, the family could get sick. The state has to check the water and help pay to clean it up so it’s safe to drink.

(b) Many of the chemical contaminants in California’s drinking water supplies are known or suspected of causing cancer, birth defects, and other serious illnesses.
