§ 1211 Wastewater Discharge Change Approval

This law says that if you own a place that cleans dirty water, you need permission before you change where you dump the cleaned water, how you use it, or why you use it.

Key Takeaways

  • •You need permission to change where, how, or why you use cleaned dirty water.
  • •You don’t need permission if the change doesn’t reduce the amount of water flowing in a river or stream.
  • •The board checks these changes using rules from Chapter 10 of Part 2 of Division 2.

Example

A factory cleans its dirty water and dumps it into a river. The factory wants to start dumping the cleaned water into a different river instead.

The factory must ask the board for permission before they can make this change. If they don't ask, they could get in trouble.
