§ 1083 Witness Fees Demand

This law says if you get called to court as a witness, you can ask for your travel money and one day's pay right when you're told to go.

Key Takeaways

  • •You can ask for travel money and one day's pay when you're told to go to court.
  • •This doesn't apply if the court is paying you from their own money.
  • •You ask for this money right when you're told to come, not later.

Example

You see a car crash and the police ask you to come to court to talk about it.

When they tell you to come, you can say, 'I need my gas money and my pay for the day I miss work.'
