§ 605 Public Entity Employment Coverage

This law says that certain jobs for the government or Indian tribes count as 'employment' for unemployment benefits, even if federal law says they don't.

Key Takeaways

  • •Jobs for the government or Indian tribes usually count for unemployment benefits.
  • •This includes jobs like working for a school, city, or state agency.
  • •Even if the federal government says these jobs don't qualify, California says they do.

Example

A person works for a city government, like a school district or a public library.

If they lose their job, they can still get unemployment benefits, even if the federal government says their job doesn't qualify.
