§ 98202 Retirement Board Eligibility Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •The retirement board decides who can join the retirement system and get benefits.
  • •The board also decides the rules for how long you can get benefits and can change them if needed.
  • •Once the board makes a decision, it’s final and can’t be changed unless they made a big mistake or were unfair.

Example

If you work for the city and want to retire, the retirement board checks if you qualify for a pension.

They look at your work history and decide if you get money after retiring. If they say yes, that’s the final answer unless they did something really wrong.
