§ 91020 Annexation Tax Levy Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •When a new area joins a district, the board can add extra taxes or fees on property there.
  • •This extra money is used to pay off any debts the new area brings or to meet the rules of joining.
  • •These extra taxes are on top of the usual taxes the district already charges.

Example

A small town joins a bigger city. The town has some old debts for fixing roads.

The city can add extra taxes on the town's property to help pay off those old road debts. The town folks will pay their normal city taxes plus this extra amount.
