§ 90936 Annexation By Legislative Agreement

Key Takeaways

  • •People in an area not part of a city can ask to join a nearby city.
  • •Instead of collecting signatures from voters, the local leaders can make a deal with the city to join.
  • •The deal can include special rules or promises, like keeping certain services the same.

Example

A small town next to a big city wants to become part of that city to get better schools and roads.

Instead of asking all the townspeople to sign a petition, the town’s leaders can talk to the city and write an agreement to join. They might agree that the town keeps its own fire department for a few years.
