§ 90771 City Annexation Agreement Terms

Key Takeaways

  • •If a city wants to join a bigger area (like a district), they have to make a written deal with the leaders of that area.
  • •The deal can include special taxes just for that city, different prices for services, or the city giving money or property to the district.
  • •The city and the district have to agree on all these things before the city can officially join.

Example

A small town wants to become part of a bigger city to get better services like trash pickup and water.

The small town and the bigger city have to write down what the town will pay in extra taxes, how much they’ll charge for water, and if the town has to give any land or money to the bigger city. They have to agree on all of this before the town can join.
