§ 7576 Railroad Equipment Title Retention

Key Takeaways

  • •If you buy a train or subway car, the seller can keep ownership until you pay the full price.
  • •Even if you get the train right away, the seller can still have a claim on it if you don’t finish paying.
  • •This rule is for big stuff like trains, not regular things like toys or clothes.

Example

A city buys a new subway train but only pays half the money upfront.

The seller can say, 'You can use the train now, but I still own it until you pay the rest.' If the city doesn’t pay the rest, the seller can take the train back.
