AI SummaryVerified

§ 6350 Utility Energy Surcharge Replacement

Key Takeaways

  • •There is an extra fee on natural gas and electricity that moves through pipes or wires in cities.
  • •This fee replaces old fees that cities used to charge, but it doesn’t make the total fee higher.
  • •The change happened because of new rules in the gas industry, like splitting up services.

Example

You pay your monthly electricity bill.

Part of your bill includes a small extra fee because the electricity travels through wires in your city. This fee is there instead of an older fee the city used to charge, but it doesn’t make your bill more expensive than before.

There is hereby created a surcharge to be applied to natural gas and electricity transported over utility and nonutility transmission or distribution systems, or both, constructed under, along, across, or upon the public streets, ways, alleys, and places within a municipality, to replace, but not increase, franchise fees that would have been collected pursuant to this division if not for changes in the regulatory environment such as the “unbundling” of the gas industry. (Added by Stats. 1993, Ch. 233, Sec. 2. Effective August 2, 1993.)
