§ 6041 Railroad Mail Carrier Access

Key Takeaways

  • •If a company wants to build railroad tracks on city streets, they must let mail carriers ride the train for free while they're working.
  • •The city can add other rules too, but this free ride for mail carriers is a must.
  • •This rule is only for mail carriers working for the U.S. government.

Example

A train company wants to build tracks on Main Street in your town.

The town can say yes, but they must make the train company promise to let mail carriers ride for free while delivering mail. If the train company refuses, they can't build the tracks.
