§ 6013 Utility Franchise Commencement Deadline

Key Takeaways

  • •If a company gets permission to do work like putting up phone lines or building train tracks on public streets, they must start the work within 4 months.
  • •If they don’t start the work in time, they lose their permission to do it.
  • •The permission (or 'franchise') is only valid if they begin the work seriously and on time.

Example

A company gets permission to lay new internet cables under a city street.

If the company doesn’t start digging and laying the cables within 4 months, the city can take away their permission, and they won’t be allowed to do the work anymore.
