  • •The county runs a special election when the board of supervisors asks for one.
  • •If the measure passes, the district has to pay the county back for the election costs.
  • •The special election follows the same rules as other county special elections.
  • •The ballot sent to voters must include the full proposal and the county's transportation spending plan.

Example

A county wants to build new roads and asks voters to approve a tax for it.

The county holds a special vote. If voters say yes, the area that benefits from the new roads must pay the county back for the cost of running the vote. The ballot will have all the details about the tax and how the money will be spent on roads.
