§ 583 Utility Information Confidentiality

Key Takeaways

  • •Private info from power companies or their partners is kept secret unless the commission says it's okay.
  • •If someone from the commission shares this secret info without permission, they can get in trouble.
  • •The commission can share secret info with the Independent System Operator if they agree to keep it secret.

Example

A power company tells the commission about their secret plans to build a new power plant.

The commission must keep these plans secret. If someone from the commission tells a reporter about these plans, they can get in trouble. But the commission can tell the Independent System Operator about these plans if they promise to keep it secret.
