§ 5383 Charter-Party Carrier Certificates

Key Takeaways

  • •There are three types of certificates for companies that drive people around for money.
  • •Class A lets them take people anywhere in the state or even out of the state, like on sightseeing tours.
  • •Class B lets them pick people up in one area and take them anywhere in the state or that area.
  • •Class C is for special trips like hot air balloon rides or rafting where the ride itself is part of the fun, not just getting from one place to another.

Example

A company wants to offer wine tour trips in a limo.

If the company picks up people in the city and takes them to wineries in other states, they need a Class A certificate. If they only take people to wineries within the state, they still need Class A. If they only drive people around the same city for tours, they might need Class B.
