§ 459 Fraudulent Transportation Damage Claims

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't lie about the cost, value, or damage to get money from a transportation company.
  • •You can't use fake papers or statements to trick a transportation company into paying you.
  • •Transportation companies can't knowingly pay for fake or exaggerated damage claims.

Example

You ship a package, and it arrives damaged. You tell the shipping company the item inside was worth $1000, but it was really only worth $100.

This is breaking the law because you lied about the value to get more money from the shipping company.
