§ 345 Grid Reliability Standards Compliance

Key Takeaways

  • •The Independent System Operator must make sure the electricity grid works well and doesn't fail.
  • •They have to follow rules set by big electricity groups to keep the grid safe and reliable.
  • •They can change their own rules (tariff) if needed, but they must get approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission first.

Example

Imagine a big power outage during a heatwave because the grid wasn't prepared.

The Independent System Operator must follow strict rules to make sure the grid has enough backup power to avoid blackouts, even when lots of people are using electricity.
