§ 2971 Utility Control Transfer

Key Takeaways

  • •If most voters in a city decide they don’t want to control certain public services (like water or electricity), the city loses that power.
  • •The state commission takes over control of those services instead of the city.
  • •This happens as soon as the official vote results are filed with the commission.

Example

A city votes on whether to keep control of its trash pickup service.

If most voters say no, the city can’t manage trash pickup anymore. The state commission takes over instead.
